Local minimum and mean minimum, and why the distinction decides arguments. Written as an equivalence explanation — not as a certification we hold.
EN ISO 1461 specifies hot dip galvanized coatings on fabricated iron and steel articles. Its distinguishing feature is that it states two requirements rather than one: a local coating thickness that no single reference area may fall below, and a mean coating thickness for the article as a whole.
For steel over 6 mm the figures are 70 microns local and 85 microns mean. The mean figure of 85 microns is 610 g/m² — exactly the number IS 4759 arrives at independently, which is why the two standards are treated as equivalent practice in most Indian export work.

The local value is the minimum for any single reference area on the article. The mean is the average across the article. A coating can meet the mean and fail the local — which is the entire point of stating both, and the reason an EN ISO 1461 inspection is more searching than an average-only one.

The Indian and European requirements land on the same number by different routes. ASTM A123 is the heavier of the three for structural shapes over a quarter inch — worth knowing before an American specification and a European one are quoted at the same price.
Indo East does not hold EN ISO 1461 as a certification, and nor does any galvanizer. EN ISO 1461 is a specification that a coating is supplied and inspected against — there is no certificate a plant is issued for it. Any Indian supplier claiming to be “EN ISO 1461 certified” is describing something that does not exist.

The local value is the minimum any single reference area may show; the mean is the average across the article. Stating both stops a thin corner from being hidden by a generous average, which is why EN ISO 1461 inspections tend to be more searching.
Very nearly, for heavy sections. EN ISO 1461 requires a mean of 85 microns for steel over 6 mm; IS 4759 requires 610 g/m² above 5 mm, which converts to about 85 microns. The two land on the same place from different units.
No — and no galvanizer is. It is a specification a coating is supplied against, not a certification a plant holds. We galvanize to the figures you specify and issue the coating readings, open to third-party witness.
Yes. Indo East holds Import Export Code 0211004090 and RCMC/EEPCINDIA/07882/2026-2027 with EEPC India. Our direct export record is one consignment — structural steel to the Maldives in January 2018 under our own IEC — and we state that plainly rather than implying a wider footprint.
